What is Intense Pulsed Lighting (IPL)?

How do I prepare for my IPL treatment?

Avoid direct, excessive sun exposure or tanning one month prior to treatment.

What should I expect during my IPL treatment?

During treatment, there will be a bright flash of light from the Lumecca® handpiece that feels like a light elastic sensation. Patients typically report no discomfort during the treatment due to the cooling effect of the treatment tip, which reduces the sensation of heat during the light pulse. Redness and a slight warming of the skin are normal during and after treatment but usually subside within 30-60 minutes.

When will I see the results?

Your skin will continue to look younger and more luminous over time. Starting 24-48 hours after successful treatment, you may see a darkening of pigmented spots, and vascular lesions may blanch or experience color change but will dissipate after a few days. The week following treatment, pigmented lesions will gently flake off on their own, leading to an even skin tone. Typically, it takes up to two weeks before you will notice the full effects of your treatment. To improve and maintain your results, we recommend at least 2 Lumecca® sessions and follow the post-treatment care:

• avoid sun exposure for 1-3 months

• avoid picking or exfoliating the skin, and allow scabs to gently fall off

• NO vitamin A products for 14 days post-treatment (Retin-A, Retinol, Tazorac)

• NO Chemical peels 1-month post-treatment

• DO NOT USE any method of hair removal on the treated area for 14 days post-treatment.

• NO Toners or acids or irritants for 14 days post-treatment.

• NO Exfoliating medications, chemical products, or devices for at least 14 days post-treatment.

Will Lumecca improve the texture of my skin or remove unwanted hair?

Though an IPL photo facial is best at color correction rather than skin resurfacing; it can minimally stimulate collagen production and improve fine lines and wrinkles. Combing Morpheus8 and Lumecca will help treat your skin’s complexion and texture for a full body and facial rejuvenation. And while IPL can be used to reduce unwanted hair, this treatment option is not as effective as laser hair removal using the DiolazeXL.
